JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Senior Back-end Engineer that will take ownership of the backend platform, from client-facing API schemas to AWS server and database infrastructure. You will enhance the core PHP/Laravel API, maintain internal Python services, and manage cloud infrastructure. The team builds with AI coding agents daily, hence demonstrated experience shipping software and designing workflows with AI tools is a requirement for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Take end-to-end ownership of the backend platform, managing client-facing API schemas, servers, and database infrastructure in AWS.
• Integrate AI-powered solutions directly into core products while building and refining the agent workflows, context, and tooling that enable effective team development with AI across a large codebase.
• Contribute to architectural and design decisions, articulating trade-offs and breaking down complex features into releasable components.
• Design and implement core products within a PHP and Laravel API, building from OpenAPI specifications using domain-driven, service, and repository architectures.
• Build and enhance internal backend systems in Python, including AWS Lambda microservices, in collaboration with cross-functional business units.
• Support and maintain production AWS infrastructure using Terraform, managing services such as ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, Parameter Store, CloudWatch, and IAM.

QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS

• 5+ years of experience building, operating, and scaling backend systems in production environments.
• Deep proficiency in PHP (ideally Laravel) along with working proficiency in Python.
• Mandatory AI Tooling: Hands-on experience developing features and building context workflows using AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar).
• Proven experience with event-driven and queue-based architectures, particularly utilizing AWS SQS.
• Experience running containerized services in production, ideally using Amazon ECS.

PLUSES

• Experience integrating LLMs into production software, including prompt design, evaluation strategies, and handling non-deterministic outputs safely.
• Familiarity with secrets management tools such as AWS Parameter Store or HashiCorp Vault.
• Experience using large-scale static analysis and automated refactoring tools like PHPStan or Rector.
• Proficiency deploying and maintaining infrastructure using Terraform, Docker, and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of relational database design, query tuning, and caching platforms, specifically MySQL and Redis.
• Background in roduction incident management, monitoring, and backend secure design principles.
